New Zealand Looking To Do Better At The Youth America’s Cup

The New Zealand sailing team is not having a good time so far at the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup finals.

They were the team that won the Youth America’s Cup title in 2013. They need to do something drastic in the final race if they are looking at repeating the heroics that they showcased in 2013.

The young Kiwi team entered the finals as one of the top contenders to win the title. But, they did not perform to their full potential and now are playing catch up after the first race. They got caught in the traffic and were only able to finish in the 7th position out of 8 boats. This is really a bad result for the team that was looking to win the Youth America’s Cup title.

The second race was also not a good one for the NZL sailing team. They earned a penalty for being over the line at the start of the race and matters got worse when the team picked up a note penalty in the third race for causing interference on the boundary.

There is no doubt that the day was a very poor one for the Kiwi team. They were able to put up a good showing in the final race of the day to complete it in the 2nd position. After the first day of the final race, the NZL sailing team was in the 5th position with 18 points.

The Land Rover BAR Academy team is currently in the top position with a whopping 28 points. They are having a seven point advantage over the second placed team, which is the Team Tilt from Switzerland. The 3rd placed team on the leaderboard is Team France Jeune.

The young team from New Zealand is looking to win all the three races that are scheduled for Day 2 in order to earn the 10 points on offer.
